A Mindscaper project
Soundscaper is an open source audio editor for recording, editing, and mixing. Work in your browser or download a desktop build, with the familiar depth of Audacity and more room to create.
Desktop builds are not yet signed or notarized. Your operating system may flag them as potentially unsafe during installation.

Familiar territory
Soundscaper is mostly on par with Audacity 3's feature set. It restores almost all of the features missing from Audacity 4, including macros, play at speed, timed and sound-activated recording, effects, and LADSPA and VAMP plugins.
Bring your existing work along: import AUP, AUP3, and AUP4 projects; export AUP4 projects; and use Audacity macros and effect presets.
MIDI support is omitted. Ripple editing and clip grouping take the place of sync-lock. Transport options now live in dropdowns beside the play and record buttons instead of a separate transport menu.
Beyond the familiar
Keep the editing workflow you know and reach for tools built for bigger audio and video work.
Move clips and files into a project bin for storage outside the timeline, ready when you need them.
Use video tracks as a reference while recording and editing dialogue or dubbing.
Use a multiband compressor, de-esser, parametric EQ, and bitcrusher. Various Audacity effects can run in real time too.
Place markers, automate changes, and route audio through send and group buses.
Desktop only
AI plugins can transcribe audio, reduce noise and reverb, and separate music or speakers.
Project progress
Soundscaper's automated test suite has grown substantially. Bugs still exist, but broader coverage should help make them rarer as the project develops.

Soundscaper grew out of kw.media and is now a project of Mindscaper, a non-profit association. Join us if you believe an Audacity-shaped tool is better in the hands of its community.
We want Mindscaper to be a home for creative software. Our video editor, Framescaper, is already in the works. From there, perhaps we can even challenge the breadth of Adobe Creative Cloud.
